L5 Cycling Team strives to support and develop competitive amateur bike racers, promote safe participation in competitive and recreational cycling, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and improve our local communities through volunteer work.
OVERVIEW
L5 Cycling Team is a USA Cycling (USAC) sanctioned club in Atlanta, Georgia. Our male and female (Lady Flyers) team members have varied levels of experience and individual goals ranging from Cat. 2 and Masters racers who compete throughout the country to mates who ride for fitness and recreation. Founded in 2003 in the Little 5 Points neighborhood, the 50-plus-member squad is one of the largest and most successful road and off-road racing teams in the Southeast. We split most of our efforts between road cycling and cyclocross (CX), but we are passionate about track racing, mountain biking (MTB), adventure gravel, and bike-packing as well.
RACING
Road | Track
Although L5 Cycling Team originates from the Little 5 Points neighborhood in Atlanta, we attract riders from all across Georgia who compete on the road and track in category (Cat.) Pro-1-2, Cat. 3, Cat. 4, Cat. 5, and Masters. Teammates contend some of the most prestigious races in the country: USAC Amateur Track National Championships, Athens Twilight Criterium, Sunny King Criterium, Tour of the Southern Highlands (ToSH), Joe Martin Stage Race, and USAC Amateur Road National Championships. Some of the team’s proudest victories include five Men’s Masters Track State Champions, X Women’s Track Champions, X State Criterium Champions, X State Road Race Champions, and X State Time Trial Champions.
Notable former team members include Joey Rosskopf[AL4] (2017, 2018 National Time Trial Champion). Rosskopf raced for the Aaron's / L5Flyers as a junior until he left in 2007 to join the US National Junior Team In Europe.
MTB | Gravel | Cyclocross
In addition to a long list of accomplishments on the road, L5 Cycling Team have competed very successfully in the off-road disciplines as well: cross country, endurance mountain bike events, off-road duathlons, gravel rides, and cyclocross. Our off-road mates don’t mind getting dirty—to them, the dirtier the better. The team competes primarily in Georgia, but we will cross state lines or even head west for some good competition. Epic events like the USAC MTB National Championships, Off-Road Assault on Mt. Mitchell (ORAMM), the Leadville 100, Belgian Waffle Ride, and Dirty Kanza have all been checked off our to-do list.
If a rider has difficulty defining himself or herself solely as a mountain biker or roadie, then they will find their tribe in cyclocross. The team consistently does well in the Georgia Cyclocross series. Several mates have taken the top step, and the team has placed 1st in the overall competition. Over the years, we’ve gotten solid results and scored many podiums—not only at our beloved Grant Park CX but also Southern Cross, Georgia State Cyclocross Championships, and USAC Cyclocross National Championships.
